Research opportunity for mums with teens aged 16 to 17 years!

Receive up to $250 in gift cards!

Pearson Clinical is conducting a study about cognition, memory, and daily living skills. They are inviting young people aged 16-17 years from anywhere in Australia to participate. To take part, the parents of the young person must not have completed a university degree.

What is this study about?

The aim of this study is to develop three new tests called the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-5), Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS-5), and the Texas Functional Living Scale (TFLS-2).

The WAIS-5 is a test of cognitive skills, such as problem solving. The WMS-5 is a test of memory and learning. The TFLS-2 is a test of practical skills, such as communicating and telling time.

Because these tests were first developed in the United States, the Pearson Team needs to ensure they give accurate results for Australians. To do this, the researchers invite people aged 16 to 90 from across the country to take the tests so they can understand how people typically perform.

What’s involved in the study?

Participation involves three sessions. Session 1 takes 2 to 3.5 hours, session 2 takes 1 to 2 hours, and session 3 takes 30 minutes. Participants will do problem solving tasks, memory tasks, puzzles, answer knowledge questions, and practical tasks, such as telling time and counting money.

As a thank you, each participant receives a $100 gift card for session 1, a $100 gift card for session 2, and a $50 gift card for session 3!

The gift card is provided through Gift Pay and is a flexible card that can be spent at a range of different stores. Click here to see the options.

To find out more and apply, visit www.pearsonclinical.com.au/participant

If invited to take part, Pearson will connect you with a psychologist in your area to complete the study sessions.

The study has been open to participants whose parents have completed different qualifications. However, as the study is close to the end, there are now only spots available for participants whose parents have not completed a university degree. This study is open to participants aged 16 to 90 years, however, at this stage there are now only limited spots available for people aged 18+ years.

This study has been approved by the St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC Reference Number: HREC A 252/21).

For further questions, you can contact the Pearson Team at research@pearson.com.au

Hi,

I am a student at Charles Sturt University and I am conducting research as part of my Master of Clinical Psychology degree. I am looking for volunteers willing to participate in my research. The research aims to explore the factors that contribute to the psychological wellbeing of single mothers.

I am looking for Australian women who are 18 years of age or older, are single mothers and care for their child/ren (under 18 years of age) at least 50% of the time. To participate in this research, you must not be in a romantic relationship, so please do not proceed to the survey if you have a resident or non-resident partner and/or do not meet the criteria listed above. You can participate anonymously and participation will involve approximately 20-30 minutes of your time completing an online survey. If you don’t fit the participation description but know someone who does, I would be very grateful if you could send this invitation to them.

The research will give single mothers the opportunity to provide information about their experience as a single mother and may provide greater understanding about the psychological wellbeing of single mothers. If you have any questions, please read the Information Statement at the beginning of the survey or feel free to contact me via email: rachelj.csu@gmail.com.

If you do decide to participate, I want to thank you in advance. Your participation is greatly appreciated and will be a valuable contribution to my research and the study findings regarding the psychological wellbeing of single mothers.

If you would like to participate or would like to know more information please clink on the link below or paste it into your browser:

Seeking single parents and/or their adolescent/young adult children

University of the Sunshine Coast
Call Out open period: 14 July – 31 December 2017

<img src="https://singlemum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/loudspeaker-homepage.jpg" alt="Seeking single parents and/or their adolescent/young adult children"width="261" height="180" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-11469" />

Are you a parent who has experienced separation? Are you an older adolescent (aged 16 years or older) or young adult whose parents have separated? We want to hear about your experiences whether they were good, bad or indifferent.

We are seeking separated parents and their older child(ren) to each complete a separate online survey which will take about 25 minutes. The surveys are confidential and neither the parent nor child will have access to the other’s responses to their surveys.

Ideally we are seeking parent/child pairs who make up their own unique code which serves to link their survey responses together. However if parents or older adolescents wish to participate without the other we encourage you to share your experiences. Surveys can be filled out at a time that suits each participant. All survey responses are non-identifiable and anonymous.

How to participate

To complete the survey please follow the instructions at http://www.surveymonkey.com/r/parentchildsurvey.

The researchers and the University of the Sunshine Coast thank you for your consideration.

Ethics Approval No. S/16/993. For further information or enquiries please contact Leanne Francia on email Leanne.Francia@research.usc.edu.au.
