Life on the Newstart Allowance: A new reality for low-income single parents

Seeking Canberra parents of children 0-8 years. Earn $80 by attending a Focus Group Discussion on Tuesday 10th December, 2013 in the evening at a city location. The research is about children’s lifestyle – the sessions run for 1.5 hours.Researchers from Deakin University are looking for low-income single parents who have recently been moved from the Parenting Payment Single to the Newstart Allowance as a result of the change to the welfare system. The aim of this research is to explore the lived experiences of this change in government financial support.

Participation in this project will involve a face to face or telephone interview lasting approximately 30-60 minutes. The interview will take place in a location and time convenient to the participant.

The study aims to learn more about the lived experiences of single parents who have been moved from the Parenting Payment Single Payment to the Newstart Allowance. We would like to hear your stories and experiences in light of this change to the welfare system.
